After a slight decline of prices in week 51, courgettes have again become more expensive, with thin courgettes costing up to 1.45 €/kilo and thick courgettes reaching maximums of 1.09 €/kilo in Almeria's agricultural auctions. At the other end, the minimum values for thin courgettes stand at 1.06 €/kilo and for thick courgettes at 0.77 €/kilo.

So far, the campaign is going well, with a growth trend that started last year, when, according to the campaign report prepared by Cajamar, this vegetable recorded the highest increase in terms of value (+64%), compared to other products grown in the province.

It could be said that producers have lost their fear after the problems experienced by the sector due to the incidence of the New Delhi virus, which devastated entire crops a few campaigns ago, and proof of this is the growth in the acreage, which according the MAGRAMA has increased to 7,477 hectares in October 2015 in Almeria.

However, as already recalled by the agricultural organization Asaja a few days ago, during the autumn and early winter the incidence of the virus in courgette crops is still higher than other years. It is therefore advisable for producers not to become too confident and use all the tools at their disposal to deal with pests and diseases. Asaja also recommends contracting agricultural insurances as protection against the risk of viral diseases.
