Whitby Seafoods has purchased Scottish trout producer Dawnfresh Seafoods’ frozen scampi business for an undisclosed amount.
Set up in 1985, Whitby Seafoods is a scampi processing firm with base in North Yorkshire.
Dawnfresh Seafoods' key division was scampi prior to 2004 when it acquired trout processor Silver Trout.
Whitby Seafoods, a private family business, claims to be one of the first firms to sell breaded scampi in the UK, reports foodmanufacture.co.uk.
With this purchase, Whitby Seafoods intends to produce fresh and prepared scampi.
Whitby processes and sells frozen seafood under the Whitby Seafoods, Middleton Seafoods and Galloway Seafoods brands, reports undercurrentnews.com.
Whitby Seafoods had also acquired Galloway Seafoods division of the Sco-Fro Group.
Dawnfresh Seafoods owner Alastair Salvesen was quoted by Undercurrent News as saying: "I started work with Dawnfresh Seafoods in January 1980, and at that time its major activity was the production and sale of scampi, although they were also involved in processing whiting and herring in Whitehaven," said Salvesen.
"A major investment was begun to expand and develop this business before moving to a state of the art seafood factory in Uddingston in 1991, where the expansion continued. Dawnfresh then acquired Silver Trout and introduced trout processing to the factory, expanding this activity with the business of Scot Trout, which included processing salmon."
"A long term investment program then began to create a vertically integrated Scottish aquaculture business, which farms trout in many parts of Scotland and adds value to a variety of fish in our factories in Uddingston, Arbroath and Grantown on Spey."
