EU: Spanish horticultural exports up 16% in November

Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports to the EU grew by 16% between January and November 2015 compared to the same period of 2014, totalling 9,820 million Euro and sustaining the overall growth of Spanish exports in this period, since shipments to non-EU destinations fell by 5%, reaching 782 million Euro. Total exports in the first eleven months of the year stood at 10.602 million Euro, up 14%.

Exports to Germany grew by 16%, totalling 2.595 million Euro, and exports to France increased by 14%, reaching 1,902 million Euro. Shipments to the UK grew by 15% and those to the Netherlands were 12% greater, totalling 1,450 and 862 million Euro, respectively.

Outside the EU, exports dropped by 5% and totalled 782 million Euro. Here we can highlight two groups of countries: on the one hand, non-EU European countries, including Russia, Norway or Switzerland, where exports fell by 31%, totalling 312 million Euro, mostly due to the Russian veto; on the other hand, non-European countries, where exports have increased by 27%, reaching 470 million Euro. In the latter group, the most noteworthy developments took place in Brazil, the largest non-European destination for Spanish fruit and vegetables, with 82 million Euro and a 22% growth, and the United Arab Emirates, with a 31% growth and 59 million Euro, according to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes of the Ministry of Economy processed by FEDEX.
