More than half of the tomatoes exported by Spain in 2015 were produced in Almeria, according to data from the statistical service Estacom (Icex-Tax Agency), under code 0702 of the Integrated Tariff of the European Communities (TARIC).
Spain's total tomato exports last year reached 950 million kilos, 7.47 percent less than in 2013 and 1.8 percent less than in 2014. The export value of the vegetable's shipments in 2015 stood at 962.24 million Euro. Although the export value has been lower than that of the last two years due to the decrease in volume, the price per kilo has increased. In 2013, it was of 0.986 Euro per kilo; in 2014, of 1.012 Euro/kilo, and in 2015 it has reached 1.013 Euro per kilo.
The number of Spanish companies exporting tomatoes in 2015 reached 638, of which 234 have done so from Almeria, 60 from Murcia, 41 from Granada and 12 from Las Palmas.
