Potato growers in the agricultural region of Rangpur are happy with the fair prices they are receiving for their crop. Despite the fact that some fields were affected by diseases, like late blight, farmers were successful in treating them and benefited from favourable weather conditions.

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, potato was cultivated on around 94,160 hectares of land this season.

Some farmers said they have been receiving good prices for the crop since the beginning of the harvesting season and expect the price to rise further within the next couple of weeks.

Potato is being sold at Tk 850 to Tk 1200 per sack (85 kg) according to its variety and quality.

Official sources from the DAE Rangpur said the farmers are showing more interest in farming potato instead of other crops due to its rising demand both at home and abroad. The department is also providing assistance to the growers to boost production.
