The National Garlic Bureau, a professional body representing garlic producers and traders in Spain, held a Regional Assembly in the municipality of Aceuchal, where it highlighted the good prospects for the new garlic season, which is expected to start without any overlap with existing stocks. This, together with the high prices reached by Chinese garlic, should result in a good campaign in financial terms for both producers and traders.
The Bureau analysed the crop's situation by regions for the new 2016 season, highlighting their good condition and slightly earlier arrival due to the favourable weather conditions recorded this winter. They also addressed the situation of prices and markets, underlining their strength both at origin and at points of sale.
Exports
Regarding the exports made during 2015, the Bureau expressed its satisfaction about the increases in both volume and average prices of the shipments from Spain to the EU and third countries. Noteworthy were the exports to Brazil, which doubled compared to 2014, reaching 13,000 tonnes, and also those going to the United States, which tripled and amounted to 7,200 tonnes. In total, up until October, Spain managed to export 126,000 tonnes to all destinations, a record never achieved, with a total value close to 200 million Euro.
