Citrus growers from Sonora sent 1,100 barrels of organic pasteurized orange juice, i.e. about 54,230 gallons of the product, to the Netherlands.

Jorge Luis Donadieu Guerrero, director of a company that processes and markets citrus products, said that they had shipped the juice bound for Rotterdam in the port of Guaymas.

The spokesman of the citrus growers in the state said they had shipped a total of 10 containers with 1,100 barrels of organic juice made out of 500 tons of regional and early orange variety.

He also said that, last week, they had sent 1,100 barrels of frozen food destined to the Netherlands, through the port of Ensenada, Baja California.

Additionally, he stated, they will ship the last 8 juice containers to Europe, which will bring to an end this season's frozen juice inventory.

According to him, Sonora has 7,737 hectares devoted to citrus, 6,626 of which are in production and generate a volume of 29,468 tons worth 95.4 million pesos.

Finally, he said that, so far, they had harvested 17.6 percent of the agricultural area on the coast of Hermosillo, which has more than 3,400 hectares citrus planted.
