The Director of the Sudanese Center for Exports Sterilization, Mr Abdul Rahman Mohamed Abdul Majid, announced the establishment of a new packing plant in Sabonaby Village, Sennar State, specialised in bananas (75%) and other fruits and vegetables (25%), with a total production capacity of 200 tonnes per day, stressing that the plant is also equipped for the handling of banana waste.
He explained that the facilities are located in an area of 7 thousand square metres and will give employment to around 250 operators. It will be opening soon, after receiving the support of the Government of Sennar State and it will be greatly beneficial to exporters of fruits and vegetables, as the climate there is suitable for the cultivation of many products, including melons, peppers and green beans.
The Executive Director of the Centre, the engineer Mohammed Khairallah, revealed that they have sought to become certified by Global GAP and have aimed to set the necessary standards to qualify for a certificate of good agricultural practices.
