US-based manufacturer and marketer of snack foods Snyder's-Lance is planning to use 100% cage-free eggs for all its egg-based products by the end of 2025.
The company intends to increase its percentage of cage-free eggs every year, thereby attaining the goal of 100% cage-free products.
Headquartered in the US city of Charlotte, North Carolina, Snyder's-Lance aims to produce and market environmentally sustainable products that can meet the demands of present day consumers.
To attain its goals, the snack foods maker is committed to using ingredients and practices that can alleviate any negative effect on the environment.
As a part of its sustainability efforts, the company took a significant step in 2011 when it commenced operations at the largest ground-based solar farm in Pennsylvania in the US.
The Pennsylvanian solar farm is capable of saving 30% of the total electricity costs in Hanover.
Among other environment-friendly initiatives, the company has included the development of renewable and compostable packaging, as well as effective recycling projects in several manufacturing facilities.
Similary, several other Charlotte-based companies have been taking measures to procure eggs from cage-free hens.
Last month, the parent companies of Matthews-based Harris Teeter and Salisbury-based Food Lion also announced their intention to use 100% cage-free egg supplies by 2025.
Kraft Heinz also declared last month that it would shift to 100% cage-free eggs in all of its North American operations by 2025, while early this year Mondelez International decided to use only 100% cage-free eggs in its products sold in the US and Canada by 2020 and in Europe by 2025.
Currently, Snyder's-Lance has nearly 1,500 employees working in Charlotte.
