The recent forest fires in the municipality of Tancitaro, the avocado region of the state, which is the largest global producer of avocado, did not directly damage any crops, but the change in land use concerns the authorities, said Arturo Olivera Gutierrez, the mayor of the town.

According to him, what could happen is that there are damages from some landslides that could affect avocado crops. Olivera Gutierrez said they were conducting surveillance so that there are no new fires, and that they were seeking for the appropriate legal measures that are not conducive to a change in land use in the affected areas.

He also stated that the municipal authorities couldn't solve all the problems caused by intentional fires, but that they were working in benefit of the commercial activities of the municipality.
