I  have a pretty small hand, but I figure when I throw “a handful of stuff” into a blender, it equals about 1/4 of a cup.  That’s what I have done here, and it made a mighty fine smoothie!  I try to hold onto berry season for as long as possible; of course, local and/or organic is best, but frozen fruit will work too.  Before we get to the actual recipe, let’s talk about how this particular smoothie may benefit you.  More specifically, the Blackberries, and how they improve cognitive health.

The list of Blackberry benefits is extensive, and the effect in improving the cognitive functions of the body is pretty impressive.  Research has suggested that polyphenolic components present in blackberries help slow down the age-related decline in motor and cognitive activity, attributing to their super antioxidant power.   Regular consumption of blackberries may prove helpful in enhancing our memory performance, while improving behavioral and neuronal functions. Blackberries are FULL of vitamin A, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6, folate, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), vitamin K (phylloquinone), calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and zinc.

Ingredients:
1/4 C Cashews
1/4 C Blackberries
1/4 C Blueberries
1/4 C Raspberries
1/4 C Blueberries
1 to 1 1/2 C Cashew Milk (just enough to cover contents in blender)

Directions:
All ingredients into high speed blender until smooth.
