Hungary: Strawberry imports on the rise

 According to CSO data, Hungary's strawberry imports increased by 18 percent in 2015 compared to the previous year, reaching 2,455 tonnes. Hungary's foreign trade balance is negative for this product. 60 percent of the strawberries marketed came from Spain, whose import fell by 5 percent last year. Imports of fresh strawberries grew by 14 percent, reaching 920 tonnes, in the first three months 2016 compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
The domestic strawberry season started later in 2016 and producer prices reached 2,200 HUF/kilogram (6.98 Euro). There has been abundant fruit from Greece (680 HUF/kg - 2.16 Euro) and Spain (750 HUF/kg - 2.38 Euro). The domestic producer price of strawberries between weeks 17 and 23 was five per cent higher than the average of the same period last year (1,102 HUF/kg - 3.50 Euro).
