Minister for Horticulture and Davangere district in-charge S.S. Mallikarjun said that the farmers’ problems will be discussed with the Agriculture Minister and efforts will be made to solve them as early as possible.
He said that farmers in different parts of the State are staging agitations demanding fulfilment of their demands. The issue would be discussed with farmer leaders by convening a meeting and this would be taken up in the Legislature session scheduled to start on July 4.
It has also come to his notice that the prices of banana, arecanut and coconut have come down considerably and farmers had incurred heavy losses. The secretary of the department concerned has been instructed to make arrangements to pay compensation to farmers after receiving reports from different districts.
Owing to wrong import policies, farmers in the State have not been getting proper prices for their crops. The State government will be urged to bring the issue to the notice of the Union government seeking proper policies that can protect farmers’ interests.
