E-commerce lose to farmers’ market regarding selling seafood
Dalian is listed in the second batches of pilot cities to build national food safety city in 2016. The forum states that its aim is to promote the rebuilding of Dalian seafood brand and propaganda the ambition to build food safety city.
The forum includes subjects like re-improving seafood brand, public opinion analysis and guidance regarding seafood brand and safety, consumer satisfaction survey, analysis, and result publication in food industry, activities to popularize scientific knowledge about food safety, and so on.
The report shows that the citizens in Dalian are still conservative to online shopping channel even the latter is extremely popular nowadays. With regard to middle and high-end seafood, sea cucumber and abalone, the top three purchasing channels are brand store (41.2%), supermarket (34.6%) and farmers’ market (23.2%). But for fish and shrimp, shellfish, crab, algae and jellyfish, the top three purchasing channels from high to low are farmers’ market, seafood market and supermarket while the choose of farmers’ market is as high as 50% and the other two are very close, about 30%. Hardly any Dalian consumers choose to buy seafood from online franchise store and TV channel. It show that brand store is appropriate for selling high-end seafood rather than ordinary seafood which can’t make more profits. But the importance of marketing channel through supermarket and farmers’ market shall not be ignored.
Calling for improved accountability mechanism
The report also calls for coordinated supervision carried out by government and improvement of accountability mechanism regarding supervisor. To avoid isolated administration of each government department, strengthen information communication, unify the standards of traceable information, and realize coordinated supervision regarding traceable supply chain system. Besides, improve the accountability mechanism with regard to supervisors. The information of the supervisors and their supervision operation shall be clearly recorded; increase the accountability intensity concerning the supervisors to achieve effective delivery of traceable seafood information.
