Led by local celebrity chef and Love My Salad Ambassador Glen Barratt during the 2016 National Horticultural and Innovation Expo, the workshop and demonstration will be at the Lockyer Valley Growers Love My Salad tent, running at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Thursday 28th July.
As Chef of Brookfield’s Wild Canary, Glen has a strong focus on local and seasonal produce and has created a trio of dishes that showcase the best of what the Lockyer has to offer.
President of the Lockyer Valley Growers, Anthony Staatz, said, ‘Glen’s focus on regional and seasonal fits really well with our intention of bringing the public closer to the farmers that are actually growing their food. What better way to do this than with a local chef using local produce? We want to show that make eating vegetables can be fun and enjoyable!’
Featuring the theme 'sharing the fun, joy and versatility of vegetables', activities are planned for children including finding salad ingredients in a maze, guessing competitions, and enjoying a salad.
‘Visitors can learn essential skills of salad making as well as tips on produce selection and listen to interesting discussions with growers whilst experiencing a fresh Lockyer Valley salad,’ said Anthony.
The Lockyer Valley Growers Love My Salad tent is sponsored by family owned specialist vegetable breeder Rijk Zwaan, who is also participating in the expo.
Entry to the Expo is $20 for adults; free for students. Once in the Expo, entry to the Lockyer Valley Growers Love My Salad Tent is free and everyone is welcome.
