Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture will soon release a revision in the policy of secondary meat & offal import, allowing the private sector to import the products. “With the revision, we aim to stabilise the price of beef in the local market, as well as to give more product choices to consumers. The products however, have to be imported from countries that are free from foot and mouth disease,” said Andi Amran Sulaiman, Agriculture Minister. Before the revision, only state-owned companies were allowed to import secondary meat and offal.
