In recent years, sales of organic food in Norway have increased by double-digit percentages every year, and so far, 2016 is no exception.

In the first half of 2016, sales of organic agricultural products in the retail trade had grown by 21.9 percent to 1.17 billion crowns (128.04 million Euro), according to a half-yearly report from the Directorate of Agriculture.

The Directorate states that this percentage increase is due both to greater sales and higher prices.

Figures from the market research company Nielsen show that organic food sales have been worth 146 million crowns (13.79 million Euro) more in the first half of 2016 than in the same period last year.

"This is important because, for many years, we have produced organic food that is sold as conventional food. Now there is a greater balance between what is demanded and produced," said the Minister of Agriculture, Jon Georg Dale, to E24.

In monetary terms, the most significant sales growth was recorded by Coop Norway. The grocery chain, which has taken over several of Ica Norges stores, reported a sales increase of 45 percent since January and has now over 700 organic products in its range.
