Sobeys Inc. is recalling Compliments brand Broccoli Slaw in Canada for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product, but listeriosis can take up to 70 days to appear.
The recalled product is sold in 340 gram packages, with UPC number 0 68820 10422 3 and best before date 16 NO 25. The product was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container so other people and animals can’t eat it, or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.
Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Use one tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach for every gallon of warm water. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.
If you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. those symptoms include high fever, severe headache, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, diarrhea, and nausea.
