According to Department of Commerce of Fujian province, trading between Fujian and Taiwan has been prosperous since the beginning of this year, especially for aquatic products from Dongshan, which exported a total of 76, 700 tonnes and 1.236 billion US dollars worth of seafood to Taiwan from January to October this year, up by 13.79% and 44.11% respectively.
As the six largest island in China, Fujian Dongshan island enjoys 248 square kilometers, whose export value of aquatic products accounted for more than 8% of the total of China.
Mr. Huang, a business man who has been doing seafood selling and marketing for a long time in Taiwan, said that Dongshan island was only 168 sea miles from Gaoxiong port in Taiwan, which attracted considerable fishing boats from southeastern Asian here to transport seafood. They also helped local aquatic enterprises to reduce the processing problems. As a result, Dongshan island became the important aquatic product trading center between Taiwan and Fujian province.
In order to help Taiwanese eat safe fishes produced in mainland China, Fujian Inspection and Quarantine Bureau opened “green channel” for fresh agricultural products export, providing overtime services for advanced appointment, carrying out one-time inspection and check, fully improving customs clearance speed. Additionally, the Bureau timely reported safety and health requirements in Taiwan to local enterprises, help them strengthen raw materials control and perfect self-test and self-control program.
