The Fuzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau is performing a check on the first fresh batch of pineapples coming from the Philippines. The batch of pineapples weighs around 1.87 tons. This is the first time pineapples have been imported from the Philippines since the Fujian port was assigned the function of importing fruit.
For this batch of pineapples, the flora and fauna inspection licence, the botanical inspection certificate, the certificate of the place of origin and other related documents are all checked. Staff of the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau are also appointed to examine the product, where a sample is taken of the fruit proportional to the size of the whole batch. After a first screening in the laboratory at the import harbour, the sample is also sent to a professional inspection centre for a thorough analysis of the food safety risks. When the test results all meet the standards, approval is granted to release the goods. When that time comes, the people of Fujian will be able to taste the superb quality of Philippine pineapples for the first time.
