In a new survey of 2,000 people by family-owned farming and food production company, Mash Direct, potatoes were ranked as Britain's favourite vegetable. As citizens turn away from trendy and flashy new vegetables they are sticking with the tried and true vegetables they grew up with.
Celery was ranked the most hated, while vegetables like Celeriac, avocado, sprouts, turnip and kale were ranked low, as well, with Brussels sprouts ranked the most hated for children, unsurprisingly. On the other, more loved side of the chart, sit Parsnips, squash, beetroot and leeks.
“As family budgets might not stretch to seemingly popular vegetables, parents are serving their families the classics that they know and were served in their childhood.” Mash Direct’s Director of Marketing and Food Trends, Jack Hamilton said. Adding that children were likely to follow their parents example and eat the vegetables they eat. It seems the parents' likes and dislikes really affected their children's choices.
