Lunds and Byerlys stores in Minnesota are recalling Fresh-Cut Cored Pineapple for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date, but the illness caused by this bacteria can take up to 70 days to appear.
The recalled product is “Our Produce Fresh-Cut Cored Pineapple.” The supplier of the fruit issued a recall. The fruit has an expiration date of January 20, 2017 or earlier.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged container, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Then clean out your refrigerator with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of water. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Then wash your hands with soap and water.
If you ate this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, nausea, muscle aches, headache, loss of balance, and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage or stillbirth if they contract this infection, even though their illness is mild. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
