"In China, lettuce is produced in the central and northern regions, and the production period is from January to April each year. According to the different sowing dates, lettuce is divided into spring lettuce, summer lettuce, autumn lettuce and winter lettuce. Spring lettuce has the largest amount of planting - in normal climate conditions, the yield per acre is about 7000 pounds. Compared with last year, the lettuce this year will increase by about 30%, and the market price will drop by about 20%," said Mr. Mingfu Pan, a private grower and a vendor.

"My plantation is located in Hezhou city of Guangxi province, covering an area of about 200 acres, with an annual output of about 1,600,000 pounds. At present, the market situation of the spring lettuce this year is not satisfactory, which is mainly caused by overproduction in excess of the requirements in the market. On the one hand, there was not too much extreme weather in the past winter and a suitable climate and temperature promoted the growth of lettuce. On the other hand, the planting of the spring lettuce has been greatly expanded."

"The reasons for the expansion of spring lettuce are varied. Firstly, the market situation was quite good last year and, driven by the profits, the majority of farmers planted more. Secondly, spring lettuce is easy to grow with lower technology and quality requirements, so the yield can be improved easily."
