Maoming village in Guangdong, also dubbed 'the village of lychees', has a batch of early ripe lychees that are currently entering the market. This year, the selling price of the early-ripe lychees has gone up by no less than 40% compared to last year. Maoming is the largest production base of lychees in the world. The total surface for lychee production is around 96,666 hectares and yields a yearly production of 500,000 tons of lychees. This is equal to 1/5 of the whole yearly lychee production worldwide. At present, Maoming are being sold for a price between 14 RMB and 24 RMB.
