The Black Bursa Figs are already being exported to several European countries like Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark alongside Russia and UAE. Kenan Aslan, manager of Sinerji says the fig-season could be over in a blink: “The season started just a few days ago, on August the 7th, where we loaded six truckloads filled with figs. Normally the season would last until the beginning of October. However, due to the warm weather, this season will be shorter than past years. We expect the season to run at full capacity until mid-September. From that point the sizes will get smaller, but the figs will be available until mid-October.”
As the season started, the prices were about the same as last year. Aslan states that prices for figs change heavily on a daily basis, all correlating with the current demand for the figs. “Although figs are a niche market, we have days with lots of interest for the Turkish Black Bursa figs from both importers and supermarkets.”
