Georgia exports fresh figs in five months over the year. Early exports start in June when quantities are usually very low. Export volumes are significantly bigger in July, but they peak in August. After that, the exports fall drastically. EastFruit analysts point out a very good start for the fig market in Georgia in 2023.
In the first two months of the active season in 2023, Georgia exported 205 tons of figs – 25% more than last year. Export prices in FOB terms have reduced from $1.40/kg in the previous season to $1.30/kg in the current one. Still, the export price in 2023 is the second highest. Due to the large increase in the export volume, overall revenue from the ongoing season is higher compared to the record-breaking 2022. This season so far, revenues from the exports constituted $255 thousand, which is an annual growth of 13%.
Fig production in Georgia in 2022 amounted to 1.6 thousand tons. 75% of this volume was exported. The Main destinations were Russia and Armenia. The latter remains unchanged in the current season, with 60% of exported figs going to Russia and the rest to Armenia.
