USDA-certified Creekstone Farms Premium Beef has started construction on a $35m refrigerated distribution centre at its plant located in Arkansas City, Kansas.

The 41,334ft² warehouse will have a main floor footprint of 35,311ft² and a 6,023ft² mezzanine area.

It will also include an automated storage and retrieval system that can handle 27,000 boxes in a nine-hour day, with box storage capacity of more than 37,000.

Creekstone Farms Premium Beef president and CEO Kazunobu Nomura said: “This new distribution centre will help our company manage our expanding business and ensure that we continue to meet our customers’ service level expectations.

“This major investment by the Marubeni Group shows the commitment that Creekstone’s parent company has in Creekstone Farms, its employees and customers. We are very excited to get this project completed as it will be a catalyst allowing for growth to meet our customer demands.”

US-based firm Integral Strategic Solutions will handle work related to the construction of the facility.

Integral comprises Kuecker Logistics Group, Weitz Company, Interstate and Schemmer Associates.

The distribution centre is expected to be fully operational by next year.

Creekstone supplies high-quality meat products such as Black Angus beef and antibiotic-free Duroc pork to grocers and restaurants. The company is owned by Marubeni Group.

Creekstone entered the processing business in 2003 after buying a 42,000m² processing plant in Arkansas City. The company’s products are exported to Europe, Latin America and Asia.
