Core Tip: The turnover of organic produce reached a new record last year in Switzerland.
The turnover of organic produce reached a new record last year in Switzerland. With 2,707 billion Swiss francs [2,700 billion USD] in 2017, according to the statistics of Bio Suisse; this represents an increase of 8.1% compared to last year. The Swiss have spent an average of 320 francs per household on organic products.

The main players in the country are Coop and Migros. These two distributors account for three-quarters of the market and are already well established in German-speaking Switzerland. But the growing popularity of organic produce in French-speaking Switzerland has attracted new competitors. For instance, the French giant Bio c'Bon opened several stores this year in Lausanne, Renens, Nyon and Geneva.

This craze has inspired others. Sonia Ziamni, an entrepreneur from the disctrict of Vaud, wants to create her own distribution network. She opened her first Ôbio store in Montreux and is about to open her second point of sale in Geneva. As many others, she also aspires to conquer all of Switzerland.
