According to APK-Inform, an analytical organization, China has become the number one importer of Ukrainian sunflowerseed meal.
In the first two and a half months of this year, Ukraine exported nearly 170,000 tons of sunflowerseed meal to China, compared with 90,000 tons to France, 72,000 tons to Belarus, 70,000 tons to the Netherlands and 64,000 tons to Poland.
Overall, Ukrainian sunflowerseed meal exports were slightly lower at the beginning of the year than in the same period of last year. Exports of sunflowerseed meal from Ukraine decreased by 33% in September and 20% in October. In the first two months of this year, Ukraine exported nearly 430,000 tons of sunflowerseed meal, a 24% decrease over the same period of last year.
APK-Inform expects Ukraine's sunflowerseed meal exports will increase in the coming months, with annual exports likely to reach 4.7 million tons, an increase of 12% year-on-year.
Oil World, a German industry agency, said that China's imports of sunflowerseed meal will increase to 400,000 tons in 2018/19, more than double of last year’s 164,000 tons. By contrast, China did not import any sunflowerseed meal in 2016/17.
