Banana production areas in China experienced significant fluctuations, with the exception of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong. There are two main reasons for this development. First, supply to the consumer market was slow. Second, several banana production areas suffered in varying degrees from cold weather. This weakened their bargaining power. Still, the overall banana price is relatively high at the moment.
As we enter winter, the banana supply from production areas in southwest China increases. There are relatively many visiting traders. Most production areas in Guangxi, however, and the elevated production areas in Yunnan all easily suffer from cold weather. The price of bananas therefore dropped from its high position and resumed regular market fluctuations. People in the industry say that in the next week, if the cold is not too great, then most production areas will remain stable and the price may even slightly recover.
