The price of some vegetables falls faster than the temperature. The prices of broccoli and celery remain low. The wholesale price of broccoli in the Xinfadi Market is currently 0.8-1.2 yuan [0.12-0.17 USD] per 0.5 kg. This is a decrease of 13.04% in comparison with last week, and a decrease of 56.52% in comparison with the price of 2-2.6 yuan [0.29-0.38 USD] per 0.5 kg last year around this time.

Xinfadi Market data analyst Liu Tong stated that the price of broccoli has recently been extremely low. The broccoli currently on the market comes from Shandong, Jiangsu, Hubei, and Hebei. The broccoli from these areas entered the market in bulk, which caused a temporary excess of supply that greatly exceeded demand. The price naturally dropped. The price of celery showed a similar development. The current wholesale price of celery in Xinfadi Market is 0.6-0.7 yuan [0.09-0.10 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is a decrease of 13.33% compared to last week and 40.91% compared to last year.

Data analyst Liu Tong further stated that several vegetable varieties suffered from great retail pressure, which makes it difficult for these varieties to escape bottom prices. "The supply conditions of vegetables this winter and next spring are better than last year." This condition is likely to continue until after Chinese New Year. "The winter vegetable harvest from south China gradually entered the market and is now reaching a peak period. Even though the supply of vegetables remains abundant, a seasonal price increase will bring some relief, though the price increase will likely be smaller than it was last year."
