The producer and sector specialist Marco Lisi said that leek sales are going well, but not brilliantly. Thanks to the recent colder temperatures, something seemed to change, as in the previous weeks nothing really happened.

Lisi explained, “The high temperatures in November resulted in two different things: consumers did not want to buy leeks - which are a winter vegetable, and the size was bigger, and thus there were larger quantities on the markets”.

More produce resulted in lower prices which stabilised around 1 euro/kg. Only recently, a slow recovery should bring the prices around a more normal 1.50 euros/kg – with regard to quality produce, obviously.

Lisi packages leaks in 4 kg boxes and sells them at the Cesena market o directly at the company. The leek is a typical winter vegetable. The summer farming is not really convenient, at least for Lisi who gave it up as it compromised both the productivity and the quality. During summertime, the German and Polish produce is facilitated by the Northern climate.
