Russia has banned a large batch of bananas from Ecuador, as apparently 23 tons are infected with the polyphagous humpback fly, found in the port of Vladivostok.

Rosselkhoznadzor specialists confirmed the infection; the Federal Service stated that the humpback fly is dangerous because it infects bananas, melons, and other products. As a result, the imports of bananas into the Russian Federation was banned, and they will be returned to Ecuador.

The ministry clarified that in 2020, some 30 shipments of plant products with a total volume of 760 tons were not allowed to enter the country. These infected products returned to sender.
