This year the apple production output in China is much lower than in other years, about 30% less compared with the last season. This is because of the bad weather conditions at the beginning of the year. The prices of Chinese apples therefore increased a lot, some varieties even doubled their price in comparison with last year. This is all because of the shortage on the apple market. Imported apples are thus also doing good on the Chinese market now.
As Henry Wang from Jiutai Modern Agricultural Co., Ltd. said: “You can see a lot of imported apples on the Jiangnan wholesale market in Guangzhou. There are apples from the United States, Chile and France. We’ve just imported apples from Poland.“
"Currently the market position for Polish apples is very good. The price of other countries is very high when you compare it with the apples from Poland. This is normal, because for example the labor costs in France are much higher than in Poland. So you can see this back in the price of the apples. Furthermore the supply of Polish apples this year was abundant, so we could set a good competitive price for the Polish apples in China.”
“The quality of the apples is very good this year, it is a good season, in total the output of Polish apples reached about 4,5 million tons.” There are not a lot of Chinese companies importing apples from Poland, so Jiutai Modern Agricultural Co., Ltd. is one of the few that imports this product to China. Their first shipment arrived on the 9th of December and started a few months intensive import program.
During the arrival of the containers, Henry Wang and his Polish partner Michal Glijer were all present to check the quality and the sales situation on the Guangzhou Jiangnan wholesale market. “Some buyers already pre-ordered some apples from us, like Carrefour, Yonghui and some e-commerce and other fruit chain stores. The apples that were not pre-ordered we will sell in Jiangmen wholesale market. "We checked the quality when they arrived and it is very good. They had a good natural smell, crispy, juicy, sweet with a bit sour, bi-clolored, these are typical characteristics of Polish apples. A real healthy choice for Chinese customers."
