The Syrian government has started shipping citrus fruits to Russia through the ports of the Crimea, which is the shortest route possible between the two countries, as reported by the special correspondent of the Federal News Agency (FAN).
According to earlier agreements, citrus fruits are delivered from the port of Latakia to the port of Crimea. Then the products are distributed to the rest of the country.
It is worth recalling that at last year's Yalta International Economic Forum, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Republic of Crimea and the province of Lattakia. The parties agreed to boost development in areas like trade, tourism, sports, construction or culture.
In addition to citrus, Syria will also supply Russia with olive oil, tropical fruits, early vegetables, phosphates and cotton products. It is not discarded that Syrian citrus will be in demand not only in Russia, but also in other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.
