China National Radio reports that the average price of strawberries in production areas all over China is at around 14 yuan [2.07 USD] per 0.5 kg. This is almost 5 times the price of such staple fruits as apples and oranges. Even though the price of strawberries is high, market demand is as strong as ever. Is it possible for the price of strawberries to rise even higher in the approach to Chinese Spring Festival?
Strawberries from all over China enter the market around the same time, but there are some production areas which suffered from snow and low temperatures, such as Lveyang and Weinan in Shaanxi, whose strawberries need more time to mature.
The price of strawberries saw a stable, seasonal decline in the last month as a result of additional market supplies from greenhouse strawberries. This happens every year in late December and early January. However, with the slight delay in production areas suffering from snow and low temperatures, there is also a slight decrease in regional production volumes, which causes local price increases, for example in Beijing where the price increase of local strawberries was relatively large.
