The Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (Mincotur) will finally choose between almonds or kakis as the next food product for which procedures will start to try gaining access to the Chinese market.
This has been reported to Efeagro by the general director of the two main almond sector organizations (Almendrave and Aeofruse), Jorge de Saja, after attending the meeting of the working group on fruit and vegetables held in the Ministry.
According to De Saja, the Ministry will make the decision based on "objective" criteria related to aspects such as production capacity and logistics, the actual demand for the product, the phytosanitary rules or the sector's commitment.
The cherry and blueberry sectors, which had also shown interest in entering the Chinese market, remain for now outside of the priority list, according to the report.
De Saja said to be satisfied with the meeting and with the decision made by the Ministry.
