More than 700 tons of produce from Gaoxiong, Taiwan, was loaded onto the "Taibei Fast Line" and traveled directly to Pingtan, Fujian, where the shipment arrived in the morning of January 20th, 2019. The smooth journey of the first shipment opens a new, convenient channel between Gaoxiong and mainland China.
The shipment left Gaoxiong in the afternoon of January 19th and arrived the following morning. The shipment contained the fruit, vegetables, frozen products, fruit juice, and noodles purchased by 7 importers in Pingtan. The product value reached 15 million yuan [2.2 million USD]. The distance between Gaoxiong and Pingtan is 178 nautical miles and the journey took 9 hours.
Specialists state that this shipping route between Gaoxiong and Pingtan could have important consequences for the proposed tunnel between Taiwan and mainland China, as well as the maritime trade from Southeast Asia that reaches mainland China through Gaoxiong.
