Yesterday, Governor K. Vijay Kumar emphasised the need for a holistic approach for the sustainable development of the horticulture sector in the state of Jammu & Kashmir.
According to an official spokesperson, the advisor was chairing a meeting with the officers of the horticulture department and its allied sectors at Fruit Mandi Complex Narwal here on Wednesday.
The horticulture industry has the capacity to change the fortunes of not only the farming community, but the entire state. Currently, the state’s horticulture sector produces 600 tons of fruit, but it has the capacity to produce 40,000 tons.
Advisors to the governor are looking into the details regarding ongoing projects of the department. Various projects are in progress, including the integrated Apple Pack House at Shopian and the upgrading of various vital units of Apple Juice Plant at Sopore.
According to greaterkashmir.com, the horticulture department is taking measures for improving quality and production of horticulture crops by the integrated implementation of viable, eco-friendly, validated and refined technologies.
