Core Tip: There was a shortage of ginger on the Belgian market over the last four weeks.
“There was a shortage of ginger on the Belgian market over the last four weeks. Volumes were low, but there seemed to be sufficient product for our clients," says Sophie Ye of the Belgian company, KX Food.

"This shortage means that prices are at a good level. We expect new containers of Chinese ginger to arrive on Wednesday. We, therefore, expect the prices to start declining again."

According to this import company, the ginger market is quite a lot better than it was last year. "The quality is great at the moment. We can even say it is the best quality of the entire year," says Sophie. KX Food imports about 30 to 40 containers of Chinese ginger per months. They have noticed that its popularity keeps growing.

“The popular organic ginger is currently doing very well. There is a slight shortage on the market which is reflected in the strong prices. You pay €35 for a 13kg box of organic ginger. That is an excellent price for this time of year," concludes Sophie.
