It is the peak of the ginger season at KX Food. According to Sophie Ye, the current ginger demand is good but complicated. The expected market shortages mean this Belgian company is importing ginger from Peru and, to a lesser extent, Brazil, in addition to Chinese ginger.

Ginger prices may be trending upward, but the market could be characterized as complex, says Sophie. "That's because both shopping and labor costs are sky-high. Selling prices are, thus, trying to catch up to import costs. Ginger prices can go only one way: up."

KX Food offers organic and conventional ginger. "We have plenty of ginger in transit from China. Its quality is good, and with winter at our doorstep, ginger can always look forward to climbing demand. So, the market outlook looks good," Sophie concludes. The Chinese chestnut season, too, is underway at the importer.
