According to the Department of Organic Production of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dominican Republic organic product exports amounted to more than 500 million dollars. The country's main organic export products were bananas and cocoa.

As a result, and within the framework of the XI Assembly of the Inter-American Commission on Organic Agriculture (CIAO), the Minister of Agriculture, Osmar Benitez, announced his commitment to increasing the promotion of organic farming in the country. After predicting that in four years the world market will demand about 320 billion dollars in organic fruits and vegetables, the official said that the country currently exported about 400 thousand tons of organic bananas, 92% of which were certified; which places the nation as the number one exporter of that product.

The president of the CIAO, Rommel Betancourt, indicated that all the countries in the conclave would reach a consensus on the issues demanded by humanity, such as food sustainability, environmentally friendly methods, and the integration of the Regional International Agency for Agricultural Health (OIRSA), among others.
