According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), a total of 351 tons of local agricultural products were sold in July. This included 104 tonnes sold through the MME’s ‘Premium Qatari Vegetables’ initiative and 247 tons through its ‘Qatar Farms’ programme, according to a press statement by the ministry.

Local farm products are sold at various malls and hypermarkets in Qatar under the two initiatives, such as LuLu Hypermarket, Carrefour, Al Meera and Family Food Centre.

The two programmes are aimed at improving the availability and sale of Qatari farm products, increasing the demand for them, minimising production loss and increasing the income of Qatari farmers, the statement noted.

The initiatives also encourage investment in agriculture and seek to ensure the availability of various types of high-quality local farm products at commercial outlets throughout the year.

The MME, along with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, oversee the marketing programmes for local produce.
