Nationwide Produce have received the first new season Kiwiberries imported from Portugal. These Kiwiberries with their unique characteristics and are growing in popularity among UK consumers.
"Our Kiwiberries are imported directly from Portugal, the start of the season is perfectly on time," said Ben Goodchild, Sales and Procurement Manager at Nationwide Produce.
"Our growers are currently producing approximately 4-5 pallets of Kiwiberries per day."
"Kiwiberries undergo a maturation process similar to regular kiwis.
They are shipped with a brix (sugar content) of 6.5-7 to ensure they don't become overripe during the 3-day voyage. This brix level allows Kiwiberries to remain stable during refrigerated transport. Upon arrival, the taste of the Kiwiberries will undergo a positive change, becoming delicious and flavourful," said Ben.
"Once removed from a chilled environment, such as refrigeration during transport, Kiwiberries ripen rapidly, similar to regular kiwis."
Kiwiberries are classified as a superfruit, they have around 20 essential nutrients, including potassium, calcium, magnesium, and vitamins E, B, C. High levels of antioxidants contribute to their superfruit status. Kiwiberries contain five times the vitamin C found in an orange, twice the vitamin E of a banana, and a vitamin content equivalent to that of spinach.
"Kiwiberries are experiencing an increase in popularity among UK consumers. There is a growing demand for Kiwiberries from retail outlets, however there isn’t a huge demand from catering/hospitality.
