Chris Archer, head of food and drink Sector at the banks said: “The Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee creates a natural interest in the UK which will offer British companies opportunities to turn casual interest into business opportunities.
“Well researched business plans could allow ambitious exporters to identify niche markets abroad and help create a long term presence in growing or untapped markets.”
Untapped markets
The banks highlighted the example of Yorkshire-based bakery, Haywood and Padgett Ltd. After investing more than £2M in new technology and buildings, the Barnsley-based business makes 1M scones a day.
The bakery is currently exporting bakery products to Australia, France, Portugal and Spain. It also plans to expand into the US and Asian markets.
The Clydesdale & Yorkshire Banks are advising food and drink manufacturers to turn global interest in the Olympics into export opportunities.
