Brain Corporation develops POS system to identify baked goods

Core Tip: Brain Corporation has developed a new POS (point of sale) system, which can identify all kinds of baked goods in a tray in one second - an innovation which can help bakeries and retail stores expedite the sale process.
The new system, which uses a camera to match the object, has been developed in partnership with the University of Hyogo.

Once the system scans the items in the tray, a green outline indicates that the items have been correctly identified. A yellow outline is displayed if the item is not scanned properly, following which, the person at the cash register can manually enter the item name.

The system can also tally the balance, which can improve the overall efficiency, especially when there is a long queue in the store.

While the system can currently identify baked goods and sandwiches, it can be modified further to identify other food items.

Brain Corporation has initiated a trial of the system at a bakery in iTerrace mall, Tokyo, which will last until 28 July.
