McCain Foods has doubled the operating capacity of its potato processing plant in Harbin, China, driven by strong growth in the region.
The factory was built in 2005 and is one of several potato processing plants operated by McCain in the Asia Pacific region.
“We have experienced strong growth throughout the Asia Pacific region, including exceptional growth in our China business – this growth requires additional investment in local capacity to support our business and our customers,” said Fred Schaeffer, regional president, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa for McCain.
The first stage of capacity expansion at the Harbin plant was completed this month. The final stage is scheduled for completion next year.
McCain Foods generates annual sales in excess of 6bn Canadian dollars. In addition to a large frozen potato processing business, it also produces other foods, including pizzas, ready meals, juices and desserts.
