World demand for food remains strong despite economic weakness around the world, according to Gregory Page, chairman and chief executive of food giant Cargill Inc.
People around the world clearly want to maintain their diets, despite slower economic growth, Mr. Page said.
"In an agricultural sense, there's still a significant price incentive for producers to try to meet this increased demand for food," he told reporters after a conference in the Brazilian capital.
The strong demand for food will probably result in the world's farmers producing more calories this year than they did in 2011, despite a drought in the U.S., Mr. Page added.
