Legacy Distilling is all set to come up with a new facility in downtown Smyrna, Delaware, with production scheduled to start in April 2013 followed by a grand opening in May 2013.

The distillery is the brainchild of Legacy Distilling co-creators Mike Rasmussen and Ron Gomes, who signed a lease on the Smyrna Theater space to build the facility.

The duo aims to produce spirits like vodka, brandy and bourbon at the distillery by using locally-grown agricultural products as ingredients for the spirits, reported delaware.newszap.com.

Rasmussen told the website that Delaware has a history of producing quality apples and peaches.

"Those are both things we would love to work with and produce brandies that harken back to the initial spirits that would have been produced in Delaware in the 1600s," he added.

Rasmussen is planning to sell at least 4,000 cases of spirits per year, after three years of opening the facility.

Rasmussen said the state lawmakers have approved their craft legislation, under which they can host tours and tastings and sell cases at the distillery.
