UK-based department store chain John Lewis reported a 26.5% increase in revenues to £157.8m for the Christmas week as compared to corresponding period of 2011.
Against the run of play due to the current UK slowdown the chain has posted best revenue numbers for the week, besides drawing huge crowds to its stores for Boxing Day shopping, reported Guardian.
Commenting on the positive sales, John Lewis managing director Andy Street remarked that December is a positive month for all the retailers but they have particularly exceeded their counterparts.
"2012 has been very encouraging for us," added Street.
The chain also stated that the hike in the sales is mainly attributed to the online channel with one-third of its sales logged vide its website, while on Christmas Day the number of visitors to its physical stores increased 24%.
Gadgets such as the iPad and Kurio provided strong sales along with traditional gifts including perfume, candles, purses and cufflinks.
